When the Beechworth Bushrangers Australian rules football club was struggling for players a few seasons back it came up with an innovative recruitment strategy.
Rather than trying to lure talent to the regional Victorian town through the promise of jobs or on-field glory, the club looked to an institution within the district housing 136 men – the prison.
