    Top-tier law firms are weighed down by unnecessary costs and national mid-tier firms can provide better value to a wide range of corporate clients and better pay to staff, their rivals say.

    Grant Koch, a former co-head of private equity at London-based DLA Piper, said big firms’ “unnecessary wastage on things you don’t need or use” drove up client costs and depressed staff and partner pay.
