High Court hands Labor rare win on immigration detention

Anthony Albanese has demanded the Senate pass Labor’s asylum seeker laws after the High Court delivered the government a rare victory on immigration detainees by ruling that an Iranian man who is refusing to be deported can be kept in custody indefinitely.
On Friday, the court ruled that the detention of the man known by the pseudonym ASF17 could continue and that his fear of harm if returned to Iran was unfounded.
