Man lodges 20,000 noise complaints, Greens hold noise inquiry

Having won a swath of inner-city seats in Brisbane by opposing urban density (our characterisation, not theirs), the Queensland Greens are naturally receptive to all types of NIMBY bugbears. Their latest crusade is about aircraft noise.

After a failed attempt to impose a curfew on Brisbane airport, the federal Greens turned, instead, to a Senate inquiry. Finally, a chance – as MP and transport spokeswoman Elizabeth Watson-Brown put it – to shine a light on “the corruption, deceit and false promises inflicted on noise-affected communities by airports, regulators and airlines”.
