    Reserve Bank ponders the market plumbing

    The Reserve Bank board is repurposing the financial system as its cheap pandemic funding is flushed out. It’s doing it as financial markets are only too happy to splash the cash.

    We are now just three months into a new era for the Reserve Bank of Australia, when speaking gigs are far less frequent than they used to be. So there was a fair turnout on Tuesday morning when Bloomberg hosted a briefing by assistant governor Chris Kent.

    Kent, a trusted servant of the central bank, used the event to update the market on a matter that the Reserve Bank board had debated at its last meeting but had yet to communicate.
