Top listed companies should shelve their plans for global expansion and focus on home-grown acquisitions to deliver better returns for investors, according to a report on the ASX200 by global consultants The Boston Consulting Group.

The research, which ranked Australia's top 200 listed companies based on total shareholder return (TSR) over the last five years, found the market tanked compared to global peers, delivering modest returns of just 6.6 per cent compared to 13.3 per cent in the United States and 9.3 per cent in Europe.
