    QR National ’s chief executive, Lance Hockridge , has been appointed chairman of the Australasian Railway Association, replacing David Marchant. The industry body represents about 160 rail-related organisations in Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia.

    Queensland miner New Hope Corp reported a 42 per cent fall in coal sales in the quarter ended April 30 to 853,000 tonnes. The miner attributed the fall to the need to truck coal for much of the quarter rather than use rail, due to flooding. Coal production fell 10 per cent to 1.26 million tonnes during the period, implying the company has a significant stockpile ready for shipment now rail operations have resumed. Jamie Freed
