Darryl Abotomey, who departed acrimoniously as chief executive of car parts retailer Bapcor in December after 11 years, has been hired as an independent director by ASX-listed high-tech welding company K-Tig.

K-Tig has commercialised technology originally developed by the CSIRO that uses a robotic arm for welding rather than traditional methods. The technique means it is able to weld 100 times faster than normal welding. K-Tig has a sharemarket capitalisation of about $80 million.
