    The Australian sharemarket slumped yesterday as hopes that the wealthy nations of Europe would come to the aid of Greece were dashed.

    Sinking into negative territory again in 2010, the S&P/ASX 200 slumped as low as 4785.4, and recovered to be 57.2 points, or 1.2 per cent, lower at 4822.8 by close. The index is down 0.98 per cent in 2010.
