Why getting the universities accord right is so important
Increased participation in higher education is fundamental to addressing inequality and lifting economic productivity.

It also creates the social mobility that unlocks the opportunity in all of us regardless of where we started in life. This ambition is highlighted and underlined in the Australian universities accord interim report.
However, opening the doors of a university to a greater diversity of potential students does not go far enough. We need equity of outcomes, not just equity of access.
