Affordable housing mandates would backfire, developers say

Government efforts to speed up housing development should not lead to heavy-handed policies such as mandated affordable housing, developers warn, as states formulate plans to win federal government incentives and boost the number of new homes being built.
NSW has already announced a 30 per cent floor space and height bonus, as well as fast-track approval for projects with at least 15 per cent affordable housing, and could reveal further measures to speed the pace of housing development in the Minns government’s first budget on Tuesday.
